Are you in the middle of making the decision of obtaining your degree through an online institution or going to a college campus? Many people that work full time or have children have often taken online college courses to receive their degree. For those who are stuck in the middle of going to class on a college campus and taking online courses, there is Future Scholars. Future Scholars is a test drive in taking online college courses. This test drive is FREE at a fully accredited online university, where you can earn 5 college credits towards an accredited university.

This is a head start in receiving your degree at an accredited online university. This is a $1,800 value that is absolutely FREE to those who qualify. There are some restrictions that apply to those who are already enrolled in college, those who are in default on student loans, students who don’t have a high school diploma or GED and don’t have access to a computer with internet access. Kaplan University a fully accredited online university offers the Future Scholars course. If considering applying for Future Scholars you must pass the ECS College Assessment Exam. Once you have taken the ECS and passed, an Academic Advisor will contact you discussing the terms of the Future Scholars program and your score. So if you are leaning towards attending an online university the Future Scholars course is the start to earning your degree online.

Normally after high school and before entering college you should have a pretty clear idea of what type of career that you want outside of basketball. However, after taking classes in college your choice could change as there are more options during the first years of mandatory classes. But for some, many think of their career after high school is as a professional sportsman or woman. There is nothing wrong with that, if that is your goal and it is possible. It is indeed a career but for most there are 4-5 years that have to pass before you can reach such feet, if you are successful. During that time period, there are many things that could happen in your life:

Career ending injury

Unexpected family

Childbirth

Financial Obstacles

Now what? Is your career only prepared for basketball or something more? The focus of obtaining a degree in subjects that you enjoy is important because after basketball you will live everyday working and providing for yourself. You could however, be lucky enough to prolong your career as a basketball player and live the life as a professional athlete and get paid a great salary. However, at some point your career will end and it is important to fall back on your degree or something that you have cooking in the fire (unless you are a “Michael Jordan”).

The importance of graduating from high school with a diploma and hopefully with an athletic or academic scholarship should be high on your list. I recommend talking to a guidance counselor and mapping out a plan for you to get prepared for exams such as the SAT and ACT when you are a junior and senior. Remember you cannot get accepted to play basketball in college if you don’t have the proper grades or pass those important exams.

I won’t go into much detail but for scholarships I recommend you reading Recruit Me if you’re interested in a college athlete scholarship.
