How to get certified to Coach AAU Basketball NCAA Approved

Before having the opportunity to coach or engaged in coaching activities in an AAU Basketball Event approved by the NCAA, a basketball coach must have a certification from the NCAA first.

All coaches, who are looking to gain experience from NCAA-certified events, must be certified by undergoing the NCAA Participant Approval Program that is currently being administered by LexisNexis. During an NCAA-certified event, the event operators will mandatorily ask the coaches to show a US Government issued picture Identification Card to make sure that only approved coaches will have the chance to participate in the event.

The NCAA Participation Approval Program is currently available online. All you need to do is to create a username and you must agree to the terms and conditions set by the NCAA. During the process, you will also be asked to authorize the NCAA to release your background check results.

And of course, having the knowledge about NCAA rules is a must. You will take the NCAA Rules test and must score at least 70% percent to pass. You also need to pay the $40 non-refundable fee through credit card to complete the application process.

The process usually takes three to seven business days, and upon the completion of the application process, your name will be posted in the List of Approved Participants. Only coaches who are in the List of Approved Participants will be allowed to participate. In case your application wasn’t approved, you will also be notified through a letter sent to the address that you indicated during the application process.
